don’t forget this weekend is our ECO chic workshop at Barneys New York with NUDE… you can indulge now!
The workshop that we are currently in has inspired me to think about what truly is refreshing about one’s personality? Being a model in today’s world takes a lot more than just being a pretty face, as I have said before… it takes personality!

Oh no...
The refreshing personality comes from self-esteem and strong self confidence. They asked me how and when will they have that… “Well”, I told them, “it takes time and a lot of practice”. Throughout class we revealed that each of them were shy, more so than they thought, while they also found out that it was hard to stand infront of others and really be themseleves… without a prop or friend. The class was an eye opener for them.
I gave them their homework… a journal to record every action. Next week we shall see if they accomplished the “homework” and can carry out the next assignment which will most likley be the hardest that they will face… yet.
I can’t tell you… so hang tight til next week to find out how these refreshing personlalities change… and take on the mystery assignment.

So there I am suddenly among green and pink table cloths… here I am again showing up for what I love to do! I am incredibly grateful that I get to work with TFSC! A group of smart, savvy teens who want to make a difference in the cosmetic industry! Their newest campaign is Lips Against Lead, banning lead from lipstick. Did you know that in 2007, the National Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found that lipstick from many top brands contained lead… tow thirds of the 33 samples tested contained detectable levels of lead: of those half were above the lead limit for candy. WHAT? WOW!
The event promoted organic, healthy options that are available; you DO not have to use products that contain harmful additives and toxins.
One by one the tables were covered with green, products were displayed and then the teens began to show up in their campaign t shirts, ready to tell the story, ready to change the world!
If you are a teen, a mom or someone interested in getting involved with a group of motivated people who are making a difference here is your
You know I love Green, I love teens, I love beauty and feeling good on the inside which reflects to you… the outside view!
On Friday morning I was invited to the Teens For Safe Cosmetic Press Conference.

- So green!

- Whole Foods Launches…
I walked in and there “They” were! The NEW, clean, non-carcinogenic, non-toxic products sitting pretty in green at Whole Foods! The products have been created, tested, tried, and used by the Teens! LOVE it. They smell great and they feel amazing.
I suggest that if you are a kid, a teen, a model citizen, a mom of a teen model, or a if you are just looking for some great products (which by the way, meet the latest and greatest of Standards using the guide lines from Whole Foods Premium Skin Care values…) go to your local Whole Foods or go to the TFSC website and purchase the Teens Turning Green Skin Care Line…
Being in an industry that is constantly promoting beauty and fashion means that I have to stay on top of the cutting edge events, or products that come alive in this world, and honestly this is not always easy — the world moves quickly! I feel lucky enough today to say that I am involved, and honored to be among great kids, and teens every week who care and want to make a difference! Which brings me to …. On October 23rd we will launch our next issue of Real Kids Magazine… be watching for it… Real Kids, Real Models, Real Life!
Become More. More Than A Model.
I HAVE TO SHOUT ABOUT THIS… I HOPE YOU ARE LISTENING.
DROP EVERYTHING that you are doing and GO SEE the Movie directed by Darryl Roberts, appropriately titled, “America The Beautiful.” I have seen it twice and applaud this man! I don’t want to give it away, but I will honestly tell you that he is not hiding or forgetting anything here. As you all know I always discuss (well maybe it’s a bit of pounding, in a very odd-funny Lane way) in our workshops and in life, the importance of a healthy lifestyle. To this day I’m still often surprised with the lack of real knowledge about the industry; what occurs on a regular basis, and how NO one reveals the truth. (if you do you are out of a job…or frowned upon.)
Modeling is an industry that is driven by your looks, your body, your image. As I’ve stated before, some “have it” while other don’t. There are also those, who for one minute are on “top” and then the next, “yesterday’s trash”… lost… and when I say lost… I mean it. Without a sense of Real identity and strong self esteem… Trouble lingers… Really, I mean, I have seen and been a part of REAL destruction from this industry. It’s ugly.
Everyday while I modeled I was forced to look at myself and everyday I was reminded by designers the size of my thighs, hips, and yes my rear end… sometimes with a laugh and other times with, “There is the door, find it.”
The saving Grace that I was gifted with was having a strong sense of self, which was developed in the fifth grade with the assistance of my rather large, in charge, and yes memorable teacher, Ms. Funk. One day she pulled me aside and said, “You know it’s not always going to be easy, pretty girls have a tough time growing up.” What? I was only in the fifth grade… what did she mean? This was a turning point for me, one which led me to become super involved with life. I turned to reading, writing, and athletics. I started “running” with a vengeance. I was horrible at sports, no one showed up for me, my parents were divorcing, I was being raised by a single dad… blahblahblah, BUT… here is when and how I learned about REAL self esteem… I had to find an inner strength. (I found this inner strength through helping others, reading, and paying attention to Ms. Funk more and more…) THIS INNER STRENGTH IS WHAT HAS PULLED ME through all of my times, in those awful chubby years with acne all the way into today as I go through, Oh I don’t know the engagement, new business, and NEW LIFE.
Self Esteem is the cement in which holds my fragile life together.
Building, creating and holding onto Self Esteem is essential to the Model Citizen….
ENOUGH SAID—– BACK to the MOVIE…
This is a movie in my little opinion that EVERY MOM and DAD and Model, or aspiring Model should go see,
NOW, PLEASE.
I KNOW THAT IT’S PLAYING AT THE KABUKI IN SAN FRANCISCO …AND OTHER LOCATIONS AS WELL…

Now even though they are here, doesn’t mean that they will pick you up– CALL them, talk to them, GO see them when they have their OPEN call… CAN you hear me… OPEN CALL… Remember just tell them that you learned everything from me…
GOOD LUCK!

Just keeping us all informed about Top Model, Talk Show Host, and Business Executive Tyra Banks…
It has been a continuous evolution of Tyra Banks, getting herself into more and more trouble with her viewers, fans and most importantly, herself. On top of that, Banks is not getting along with photo shoot creative director Jay Manuel, and her days on the show could be numbered. Tyra barely interacts with the contestants and only wants to show up on judging day. What is this about, wouldn’t you think that she would want to show up to help these young ladies who aspire to what she has lived and raves about? On the other hand maybe she thinks she has better things to do than work with the girls and Top Model show that has changed the hundred of thousands young teen girls who strive to be apart of the modeling industry. Not only that but she has flipped out on many of the girls, one episode sticks out in my mind: She threw a tantrum at contestant Tiffany, a former Top Model 3 semifinalist who had managed to make the finals of the show’s fourth season, she launched into a lengthy, unnecessary explosive tirade against her. Wow, is being rude and mean in the book of modeling, and professionalism?
Many report, “She is really throwing all her weight behind the talk show” (msnbc.com).
“Why” is my question because at face value she is really:
A) NO OPRAH and
B) NOT so well spoken.
The Tyra Banks Show, while highly successful in the ratings, has to be easily the most annoying, pointless, it’s all about me (as in Tyra) talk show on the air. Banks was caught grabbing some woman’s breast and this is not the only time Tyra has done so. This shows both her intelligence and class level if she is doing this on public television. There is no need to get noticed in this manner and be remembered for degrading occasions. Being a Top Model, she sure does not prove TOP prerequisites to fulfill or meaningful qualities to possess. Remember the Rosie O’Donnell cop-a-feel? Who knows what the deal is behind the fascination with the grabbing.
Hands down, the best clip from the ‘Tyra Banks Show’ in the last eight months or so is Tyra falling out of her chair at the sight of a little black creature. If she is that afraid of animals, how about not scheduling them for her show? (It’s her show she can do what she wants to…) This really portrays the lack of organization behind what is being produced and no real regard or thought process on her part, the “Producer”. The fact that she invites guest, in this case it is was a porcupine to gain ratings from her own fear factor is just sad. Think about that for a moment.
The qualities and characteristics that make up Tyra Banks and her popularity truly baffle me. I am constantly surprised of how much attention is given to this woman and how she is held in such high regard by the young models who strive to gain access to this industry. All of her bad habits and the attitude are comical to me she should be questioning herself and her motives. Is she really trying to help young girls or to just build her bank account?
There is so much more to modeling and how I wish she as a Top model would show that, we are more than just pretty a face and bad attitudes.
We are smart, intelligent, beautiful people. We are More.
More Than A Model.

A Reason why YOU can become MORE…than a Model
Become More! More Than A Model. Become a Model Citizen
I recently had the opportunity to speak with a long time studio teacher… and colleague Christine Bloomingdale: Studio teacher with a fantastic zest for life!
She is an awesome studio teacher who has worked with amazing kids for years… more than 15– WOW! She knows her business and she continues on at a steadfast pace helping kids on sets — not only with homework, but also growing up in show business.
One of the greatest questions she brought to my mind was this: (maybe you should think about it)
“How will this effect your (my) entire family?”
Once in this business everything changes, hours of work for mom and dad, hours of school, missing friends, activities, travel, traffic, schedules, phone calls, the way you show up in public, how you speak to people. The list is long… how will it effect your younger brother, or your older sister who will not or doesn’t want to be in the business… what if your family frowns upon such jobs as not being “smart” enough…
When she said this I was suddenly struck with what I observe on set myself, either while working with kids on a set, or while producing and watching moms trying to handle their one child on set while holding onto the other who is only three and “being” three… running around throwing things… LIFE! This business effects everyone! There is so much to consider before jumping straight into it all, are you really ready? Is mom? How about dad? Think, think, think.
We continued to talk about how the industry can largely effect a child’s development and what it is a studio teacher really does… this is what I gathered from her (which I think is great.) The studio teacher is there actually because the STATE LAW demands it… yep that’s right. I didn’t realize how serious this was until she started giving me examples of the “gone wrongs…” California State Laws are something not to messed with, they provide kids, and parents protection in making sure that the child will be taken care of and educated while on a photo shoot or movie set. There are hours and age requirements so please make sure that your producer or the photo shoot, movie set, etc. that you are working on is supplying you with a CERTIFIED Studio teacher . If you show up and there is NOT a teacher call your agent or simply request that you will not be available to perform the job. You can always contact your local agencies to inquire and set things right. Many times production companies try to get away without a studio teacher because of cost, or they may be working with a NEWBIE producer who just may not know the State LAWS… whatever the excuse in the long run what they may not realize is if they are caught the penalties and “reputation” may cost them more in the long run.
My philosophy: EDUCATE ! The more we all know the better the job, and less STRESS… this is all about less STRESS and keeping it simple.
She continued to speak about the wellness of the children on set and how she as a studio teacher can help in the child’s development. This little piece of information I would have never thought about… but it’s true because MOM you are not really on set with the little one, the studio teacher can be and is sometimes asked to be there. Many times the teacher will become not only the teacher but the inside “friend”. She/He is most likely able to help the child when they become fearful or even “FULL” of themselves making it possible to get the shot or continue shooting the day.
There is so much information… here is something else that I think is worthy of you knowing…
8 CCR Section 11755.3—Studio Teacher’s Authority.
I’m really glad that I know and have worked with some really great studio teachers and I have been able to see what they can do on set when NO one else has been able too. Studio teachers are an integral part of the process of not only the filming, shooting and keeping things organized, but they are there for your KID’S growth and educational process, don’t ever miss out on this!
Be More… More than A Model.
