When showing up in life as a model, we need to have it together-really! I suggest having a model kit now. What if you suddenly dropped your lip gloss and it lands on your shirt… do you have stain remover ready to remove it? A potential client will not want you showing up with stains, holes or looking shabby. Today’s jobs are far and few between so please show up and LOOK your best… and use the Model kit if and when needed!
MODEL CITIZENS always need to be prepared.

Go to More Than A Model NOW!
So business is bad, you haven’t booked a job in months and your agent is telling you that you might consider new photos… Yikes, money going out, not coming in…
WAIT… hold on… don’t do it. Don’t spend any unnecessary money now, now tis NOT the season to spend frivolously. Maybe now is the time to begin to start thinking of others and not yourself, maybe it’s time to cut your agent… maybe its time to get a second or third job… or at least get your resume together. With all your extra time… do something creative and green! Save time, money and help the world. Volunteer.
Do you know what your carbon footprint is and what you are doing to restore global warming…?
What?
You have no idea what I’m talking about? Well as a model, I tell you now, as I continue to do… as a model get ahead of the curve, be on top of the game. Contact manufactures, companies, brands all by yourself, tell them you want to work for them, tell them that you have a message to share. Tell them you want to help them with your great looks, and stunning personality– show them how incredibly SMART you are… Go after them!
Back to Green…
Being Green doesn’t necessarily mean that you are “new” , or that you are a spend thrift and only shop at discount stores… NO green for you can mean what you want it to… Make a difference, be heard, get involved and help others!
Be Green and RED. Share the holiday Spirit.
Be More. More Than A Model
I’ve been thinking a lot about the industry and how I began this journey. CHANCE. Pure chance of someone tapping me on the shoulder… Pure chance of good genes, maybe?
I work with a lot of kids, families, moms, dads and inevitably they ask: “Does my kid really have a chance at this Modeling Business?” “Ms. Lane do you think I can really be a model? Will they take me on?” I have a long and short answer to all of these types of questions. I will simply state it here for the record: I am not an agent, nor do I pretend to be so the short answer would be this, I don’t know. One of the first things that I address is that NOT everyone will make it, or get a job or ever have a chance. There are certain facts about this industry plain and simple, and fact numero uno is that if you have the look that the client is looking for then you will get the job; that is if you made it to an agent’s office and they saw something in you that is marketable. They see something that they can sell, that is how they (the agent) makes a paycheck. SIMPLE. This industry is all about the genes. If you have them, then great you may get lucky. You will only know if you call an agent, go to an open call, submit yourself and see what happens. But here is a tip if you go for it… BE READY and be ready for disappointment, this is not an easy industry to get into on a whim. My job here is to tell you the truth not sugar coat it and lead you on… It takes work to be a model. But there is always… Chance.
Be More… more than a model.
You can thank me later… it takes awhile to collect them all…
Now even though they are here, doesn’t mean that they will pick you up– CALL them, talk to them, GO see them when they have their OPEN call… CAN you hear me… OPEN CALL… Remember just tell them that you learned everything from me…
GOOD LUCK!

“Ms. Lane, I don’t have an agent, what do I do?” This is a common question that I get all the time. I have to remind you that this is an industry that is driven by those who take ACTION. While in Los Angeles and with one of the best Agencies I sat around waiting for the phone to ring… waiting day in and day out… waiting… until I met someone named Kate. Kate was and still is a successful casting agent in LA. She asked what I was working on… I was terribly embarrassed as I replied with, “Nothing, my agent has called me in months…” She looked at me sideways and shook her head. “Oh Lane you’ve been zapped with the agent dream”. I had no idea what she was speaking about. She continued on to tell me about her job and what she did, then said to call her on Friday that she had a job for me. Just like that it happened. I had been waiting for my agent to do something. I called my agent to ask what they had sent me out on, and if there was anything that I could do to muster up any work with them… their response… “Nothing, call us next week”. I called Kate on Friday she had me come to her office, which at that time was a room in her house in the hills of Hollywood, the room was full of scripts and headshots and comp card. I mean from floor to ceiling, no joke. She was and is very serious about her business, and cast many jobs, her house proves it… It’s not cheap to live in the Hills of Hollywood. Anyways, back to casting. I filled out a form that asked about ME, all my experience, abilities, and stats. She took a couple of snapshots and voila, done! The following Tuesday she had me booked on a job, then again on that Friday I was on another set. WHOA! She called, I followed up, and then showed up where she wanted to be, on time.
Casting agent. She sent me out all the time, it was awesome. I sent her flowers.
My point is that it’s a business where I can’t wait around and wait… I have to constantly be looking and connecting with people if I want to succeed.
Now let’s talk about San Francisco it’s very different here… BUT there are casting agents here and they do work… they see all the jobs, well a lot of jobs. They are not agents, they don’t take any of your money, they get paid from the company looking for the talent… NOT like an agent. Remember agents get paid from YOU and the company looking for talent. If you are not signed up with a casting agency then you are missing out and not doing your part… SOME agents are busy… and have large stables of models… you could be forgotten, missed, overlooked… SO WORK it yourself!
If you don’t want to work it — and you don’t have an AGENT get a manager… they will help you, they know the business, they have the contacts and the time to look and send you information about the industry. It’s their job! You pay them direct 15% of whatever you make from their bookings… remember and agent can take up to 22% here in California… at least that’s what one of may agent’s took here in San Francisco. I think it’s well worth the investment to have a manager, and to be signed up, and know the local casting agents. If you really want to be in this industry and you are driven then it’s worth it. But if this is something that only intrigues you or you are looking for the one time shot, then GOOD LUCK… you may be waiting an extra long time…
A dynamic casing agent that is in the know…and you should KNOW!

MORE THAN A MODEL!
I received this email in my box today…
I can’t agree with you more on MORE TIME!
Last night we did find two formal short dresses for you to choose from for her. KD is a jeans- type gal, so we are bringing most of her jeans and cotton tops that she wears for every day. Then we found 3 other dresses that could be semi-formal. We are gonna get her nails and hair done today. ![]()
I am sure you hear all the time how wonderful you are with the kids, but I have to tell you, you have TRULY touched my daughter in such a positive way that there aren’t words appropriate enough to express my thanks to you as KD’s mom. She totally admires you! and so do I! You should have heard her last night when we were trying to find stuff: “Lane would like this!” or ” What do you think Lane would think?” so cute! see ya tomorrow. and THANKS AGAIN!
Theresa Doede
This is KD and her SUPER COOL MOM, Theresa!
I cannot express what it means to receive messages like this… my day changes, my mood changes and I believe more deeply in why and what I do…
